C.A.P.I > Welcome to Carlton
C.A.P.I President : Gino Francese with Lord Mayor Robert Doyle
Carlton, one of Melbournes most beloved precincts, is a treasure trove of retail, fashion, food, home wares, books, beauty and travel. The precincts shopping caters to all styles and budgets.
Only a short walk or tram ride from inner city Melbourne, Carlton is a unique suburb full of history, tradition and an atmosphere that epitomizes what it means to be a multicultural society.
Carlton is not only the place to go for a friendly meal and a glass of wine - it is Melbourne’s centre of education, culture and art. The "Piazza Italia", in Argyle Square was built to recognise the contribution of the Italian community to Melbourne. It features lush gardens, handcrafted Italian stone paving, a giant solar clock, and plays hosts to a variety of cultural events, exhibitions and festivals throughout the year.
Lygon street is known and loved for its rich Italian heritage, and is the most famous "Little Italy" in Australia.
Carlton’s traders add to the cosmopolitan diversity of the area. Some are third generation Italian families who have been operating restaurants and commercial premises in Lygon Street and other parts of Carlton since the 1940's.
The restaurants spill onto the footpaths and bantering with the black tied waiters is part of the fun - You'd swear you’re in Rome!
Tantalise the taste buds and feast your senses, there’s pasta to savor and cake to devour.
